The Curious St Andrews project aims to develop effective and sustainable options for engaging members of the public with the history of research, scholarship and enquiry in St Andrews.

St Andrews has a long history of curiosity and enquiry. The ‘Curious St Andrews’ project seeks to find out more about the people and places involved in that history, especially scientists and mathematicians, and to share the findings through a public engagement project.

The team will build upon work done by previous students to research and present the history of curiosity in St Andrews. So far, we have researched about fifty people, and locations such as St Salvator’s Quad. Some of those are featured on our website and in digital tours. Possibilities for 2022-23 are to broaden the diversity of people and places investigated, but we are also keen to enrich and diversify the ways we present their stories to the public, both online and through other types of engagement activity, for example with tourists, local school children and members of the University family.

We are therefore keen to find new team members with digital and media skills, and also those with an enthusiasm for public engagement. We are increasingly conscious of the challenges of making this project sustainable in the longer term. Skills or interest in entrepreneurship would also be useful.
